100 Meter Dash
Mount Hope's Da'Von Marion powered away from Bishop Donahue's Matt Schrumpf and Moorefield's Cody Mongold for the win.

200 Meter Dash
Doddridge's Cuylor Edgell pulled into the lead in the last 50 meters and pulled away for the win over Wheeling Central's Xavier Whetzel. Whetzel held off Bishop Donahue's Matt Schrumpf and Charleston Catholic's Brian Mosteller. Edgell was the only one in the field to go under 23 seconds.

400 Meter Dash
Bishop Donahue's Matt Schrumpf and St. Marys' Kyle Davies cross nearly simultaneously, but it was Schrumpf who got the edge on the camera 51.13 to 51.14. Doddridge's Cuylor Edgell was just 0.14 behind Davies in 51.28. No one else came in under 52.5.

800 Meter Run
Richwood's Derrick Chaffin edged Charleston Catholic's Seth Ritchie by 0.07, and they were the only two to go under 2:04 with their 2:03.62 and 2:03.69, respectively. St. Marys' Eric Hamilton came in under 2:05, and Charleston Catholic's Will Farkos-Worthy used a strong last 125 meters to move up into 4th. One of my predicted placers did not run.

1600 Meter Run
Richwood's Derrick Chaffin took the field out hard in 65. Charleston Catholic's Andrew Blair and Wheeling Central's Rob Bonenberger were close behind in 66. At the 800, Chaffin came through in 2:15 and had opened a 3 second gap on the field. Bonenberger and Pocahontas' Abram Rittenhouse crossed in 2:18 with Blair and St. Marys' Eric Hamilton crossing in 2:19. After three laps, it remained Chaffin in control followed by Rittenhouse and Bonenberger. Chaffin was able to hold his 3 second lead to the end, winning in 4:33.85. Rittenhouse was able to outkick Bonenberger for 2nd as the pair finished in 4:37.01 and 4:38.18. Hamilton was able to get by Doddridge's Daniel Clevenger down the stretch for 4th, and Clevenger held off Blair for 5th. Doddridge's Tanner Mattie also came through in under 4:50.

3200 Meter Run
The field went out fairly hard on the first lap with Richwood's Andrew Shaffer leading the way. Lap two slowed dramatically, and the field bunched up with numerous runners coming through in 2:34. On lap three, Doddridge's Daniel Clevenger quickened the pace, and Wheeling Central's Rob Bonenberger, Pocahontas' Abram Rittenhouse, and Doddridge's Tanner Mattie came through in 3:49. At the 1600, it was Clevenger with the slight lead in 5:05. He was followed closely by Rittenhouse and Bonenberger in 5:06 and Mattie in 5:07. Shaffer came through in 5:11. He was followed by Cameron's Austin Chambers and South Harrison's Davey Wriston. At the end of lap 5, the front four were together, all coming through in 6:24. Shaffer came through in 6:33. Tucker's David Rhodes had moved into 6th, coming through in 6:39, with Chambers 2 seconds back. On lap six, Mattie made move to the front, coming through in 7:41. Bonenberger and Rittenhouse came through in 7:43, and Clevenger in 7:46. Shaffer came through in 8:01, leading Rhodes by 1 second. Rittenhouse and Bonenberger caught Mattie on the backstretch of lap 7. With 600 Meters to go Rittenhouse began to move. He had opened a 2 second gap on Bonenberger by the end of lap 7. Mattie was an additional 3 seconds back, with Clevenger another 4 seconds back. Rhodes had made the pass on Shaffer. On the final lap, Rittenhouse pulled away from the competition, closing in 68 to win by over 7 seconds. Bonenberger easily held the 2nd spot, nearly 9 seconds ahead of Mattie. Clevenger remained 4 seconds behind Mattie, but easily in 4th. Rhodes ended up 10 seconds ahead of Shaffer for 5th. Charleston Catholic's Tony Majestro and Chambers also finished in under 11:00.

100 Meter High Hurdles
Doddridge's Zach Holden took the lead over the 4th Hurdle and stretched the lead from there to the finish to win by 0.31 over Clay-Battelle's Dylan Opyoke. Bishop Donahue's Ryan Jones won a very tight race for 3rd over Williamstown's Micah Wood and St. Marys' Brett Wright.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Buffalo's Corey Good ran away from the field to win by over a second. Wheeling Central's Dan Gordon and Buffalo's Matt Moore were the only other runners to make it in under 43 seconds.

4x100 Meter Relay
Valley Wetzel out paced Moorefield by 0.18 for the title. Wheeling Central scored a 3rd from the 1st heat. Williamstown edged Clay-Battelle by 0.01 for 4th. br>RunWV's Current Score: 45 of 54.

4x200 Meter Relay
Charleston Catholic held off Moorefield as both ran under 1:35. Pocahontas was the only other team under 1:36. Wheeling Central was very much in contention for the win but missed the final handoff. Paden City and Doddridge scored from the first heat.

4x400 Meter Relay
Charleston Catholic smashed the field by 2.2 seconds. Moorefield moved into 2nd on the final leg. St. Marys made a late pass to get by Doddridge by 0.05. Williamstown held off the late charge of Pocahontas, who suffered a fall on the final leg, but got back up and made a pass to get back into 6th. Charleston Catholic's 3:34.88 gave their unit of Seth Ritchie, Will Farkos-Worthy, Jon Cicconi, and Brian Mosteller the 4th Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade.

4x800 Meter Relay
Charleston Catholic used a 2:03 2nd leg from Seth Ritchie to take a lead they'd never relinquish. Wheeling Central used a 2:07 anchor from Rob Bonenberger to move past Doddridge into 2nd. Doddridge easily held 3rd. Pocahontas held onto 4th over Buffalo. St. Marys used a 2:07 anchor leg from Eric Hamilton to move into 6th.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Buffalo was the only team to run under 61 with their 1:00.76. Wheeling Central ran a clean 1:01.43 to take a solid 2nd. Williamstown was the only other team to run under 1:03.

Long Jump
Mount Hope's Da'Von Marion soared a State Meet Record 21'7 to win by nearly a foot and a half. His leap was the Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade. Doddridge's Cuylor Edgell and St. Marys' Kyle Davies had matching 20'1 1/4 jumps. Edgell had a better 2nd best jump to give him the 2nd place spot.

High Jump
Pocahontas' Jeff Fertig defended his High Jump title and cleared a Class A State Meet Record 6'5. His leap along with a previous State Meet jump of 6'2 give him the 3rd Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade. Williamstown's Matt Logan and Hannan's Travis Bowman each cleared 6'2, and Wheeling Central's John Belancic cleared 6'0.

Shot Put
Williamstown's Matthew Kiger launched the Shot a Class A State Meet Record 52'2 1/4 to win by nearly 6 feet. His throw is the 2nd Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade. Wheeling Central's Aaron Schneid was just over a foot better than Richwood's Jacob Jones for 2nd. Three other throwers, St. Marys' Hayden Ullman, Williamstown's Jakeb Elliott, and Gilmer's Will Radcliff had throws of 44'9 or better.

Discus
Williamstown's Matthew Kiger won by 4 feet over teammate Jakeb Elliott. Richwood's Jacob Jones edged Wheeling Central's Aaron Schneid by 6 inches. No one else was over 130'. Kiger's throw of 144'7 gave him the 6th Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade.

Pole Vault
Doddridge's Cuylor Edgell overcame some early misses to end up clearing 14'0. That height along with previous State Meet vaults of 13'0, 12'0, and 12'0 gives Edgell the 2nd Best Class A State Meet Performance this Decade. St. Marys' Kyle Davies was the only other vaulter to clear 12'6. Gilmer's Cam Kinder cleared 12'0 for 3rd. Doddridge's Jeremy White and Williamstown's Tyler George each cleared 11'6 in taking 4th and 5th, respectively. Williamstown's Mat Looney cleared 11'0 to finish 6th.
